Yes, the SP narrow gauge had a hand crank derrick that was converted from a standard gauge Southern Pacific car. Probably only good for handling trucks and blocking.
I cannot see how useful it could have been, but the SP must have thought so. After all, prior to steam powered derricks that is all that the SP had. It did arrive about two years after 4-6-0 #14 derailed on a curve on a 6' high embankment; the #14 appears to have been rolled all the way over prior to hauling it back up onto the grade.

#1 .. 10-ton hand derrick renumbered from SP 687 at Mina (or Sparks) 3-11-20
trucks had been changed to ng 4-14-17 at Mina and car transfered to ng records
Vacated at Mina 6/38 and dismantled 7-18-38 at Mina
To go along with the #1 the SP had four other cars (1-A, 1-B, 1-C & 1-D) set up as the "relief" train.
