Re: C&S 9 status

So now we most likely have a static display of an historic locomotive that probably consists of less than 50% historic fabric, and if we want her to run at all then the entire cylinder saddle must be replaced and to get any real power she needs a new boiler as well.

IMHO, #9 should have been spruced up cosmetically prior to 2005 and placed on permanent and well-protected display, and as accurate a replica as possible built with modern materials for efficient operation. (See [ngdiscussion.net].) With all the money that has been poured down Devil's Gulch in the past four years an accurate replica of #71 could have been built as well, and the Loop could have recreated history in a very effective way. Instead we have diseasels until Phil and crew can work some magic ...

This post is in no way intended to disparage John Braun & Co. and the excellent work they are doing, but to highlight what the actions of Bell, Behrens and Ms. Condi-Google-Eyes have accomplished.
