Thanks Jim for your positive thoughts.
During the last 33 years we both have seen the good times and the not so good times. BUT the common concept that has existed over all of these years is an attitude that says WE CAN DO IT, WE WILL GET IT DONE.
I too can remember the days when we had to split wood by hand with a wedge and splitting maul between runs. There were several times that the run was delayed as Dick Anderson and I were splitting or loading wood so we could run. Part of the train ride was a demonstration of how we loaded wood by hand onto the No. 3. And there was the time when we put the water spout on the water tower by flash light because it had to be done and Nils made it happen.
As you know in the early years money was tight and we made do with very little as everyone pitched in and just made it happen. No crying or complaining, just getting it done. I know that the Wilts spent their own money for the food for the Moon Light runs and others spent their own money to purchase supplies that were needed to run the train or the depot.
My point is that with the determination and the positive attitude that has existed for over 33 years and still exists today at the railroad, the railroad will continue to exist and overcome any problems. To those with negative comments, I say, just look what has happened over the last 33 plus years, bring a positive attitude and help the railroad get past this period of hard times.
These comments are my own.
My first job at the railroad was shoveling rocks (thanks Laura) and my last job will be under those rocks.
