WHile SVRR is in survival mode (as are many other organizations due to the nation's economy and fuel prices), SVRR is currently stable and any end is still far out of sight. While it is true the #19 is going down for next season, the Heisler is still available for special events so there will be some steam. There are options to keep most of the trains running behind diesel (and generating income), and that is the immediate goal.
Don't expect any sale of SVRR equipment anytime in the future. As a last resort, I believe the county might have first right to assume ownership of the railroad and the collection in order to keep it as a visitor asset.
I think everyone will agree that to keep a steam engine running these days you need lots of money, volunteers (at least for a non-profit) and paying vistors - and then even more of the same.
My opinion.
