As someone relatively
green new to real railroading I for one appreciate the
clear classy thorough explanation, and now understand why the class lights on #2472 and #4449 can be set either clear or green, but the markers at the rear of the train can be turned to show red, maybe yellow, or green. They
clearly obviously have (or at least had) different functions, and therefor should have (had) distinguishing names to prevent confusion.
Too bad you didn't include this clarification in your initial post, as it could have rendered all the subsequent bickering unnecessary.

p.s. Were class lights ever red, and if so what did that signify?
