Thanks for posting the picture. Not Chama but exactly the same job. Running the old railroad was so much more than moving cars and locomotives around. Where else in the USA is it possible to see a full sand house operation. As far as I know Chama is the only place still equipped to do it the old way. If the C&TS is at some level supposed to be a living museum it is more about how stuff was done than about paint and lettering.
To my way of thinking living history is "service em the way they serviced em, run em the way they ran em, and fix em the way they fixed em." then do it again the next day and the next and the next all season.
Add to that folks in 1930's garb loading sheep at the stock pens and running a stock train complete with drovers to Osier etc. If you want to see the west the way it really was C&TS could do something no place else is set up to do. Thats what I call historic re-creation!
