Weren't the 27s originally delivered with slope-back tenders, as well? The best thing about this picture is that it shakes us out of our notions of how we think a place or piece of equipment should look, how we're used to seeing them. We sometimes forget that these places and things change over time. The Chama coal tipple is iconic, but it wasn't always there. The 36s and 37s didn't change radically during their tenure of service, but the 27s were from an earlier time and we don't often see their earlier configurations.
Man, I love this forum.
