When I chased a work train to Aztec in 1966 I was unaware that there was still an agent on duty there, so I was pleased to see Al's comments and especially names of the men working in those places. I can't imagine the final years were very interesting. The agent was still on duty in Chama in 1969 when I visited there one day, and with the railroad dead, I asked him what he did, and his very short reply was "collect the rent." The D&RGW leased a lot of land adjacent to the yards to various Chama businessses and that's what this fellow did once a month--collect rent checks.
