The thread about holding an ng job got me to wondering about the agents in the final years of the D&RGW ng.
What stations still had open agencies? As operations wound down, were agents brought in on days that trains ran, say from Alamosa?
Or were they at their post daily even if there were no trains that day (or at the end, that week!)? If they were there daily, I suspect that they spent more time trying to sell freight transportation on Rio Grande trucks than worrying about train movements.
I would imagine that even the Durango agent would be under-tasked once the Silverton Mixed was done for the season.
So, what about the agents?
