Hi, Scott -
Too bad the NN is SO far away. It's a LOOONG day's drive for me, and I'm 'right next door' in California. That must have been a major expedition for you, but judging by your pics I'd say well worth it - especially in the winter or at least early spring when there's snow on the surrounding peaks if not right down in town. I was there in December 03, IIRC, and the weather was cool but clear the first two days with a few snow flurries later on - a fabulous weekend.
We have talked before about image quality, and I think part of my problem is simply not having adequate equipment. My current camera is O-K, but not great - 12MP digital w/ a Zeis lens - but if I'm going to back into semi-serious railfanning I'm probably going to have to splurge my tax refund on a real camera. Not film - that's just too much expense and hassle at this stage - but a least an upper-medium digital such as a Canon D-something-or-other like Herr Brummbar.

p.s. Speaking of foreground, here's one of my favorites - reduced to 900x695 at medium compression (PhotoShop 62%) to keep it under 200K per NGDF specs. IIRC, the original is a 6x7 cm Fujichrome.
If you look real close, you can see a trout swimming in the ox-bow that's about halfway to the engine ...
