Would the fact that the hoppers used on the train which dereailed were built for the 3-1/2 ft. gauge Newfoundland Railway have had anything to do with causing the derailment? Was the NflD Ry. equipment built to a wider loading gauge than the 3 Ft. gauge WP&YR? If so, putting the wider cars on 3 ft. gauge trucks could well have had a detrimental effect on the way they ran on the narrower track. -- Ed
