The addition to the back side of the machine shop was the Master Mechanic's office. Interestingly, this little part was saved when the shop came down. It remained the local foreman's office and part was converted to a crew locker room. About 1988 we got word for the local trainmaster that the building was going to be demolished and was "full of stuff". If we wanted the "stuff" come over and get it. Russ Fischer, Dan Ranger and I went over one typically balmy February day and cleaned out all the records (including some steam loco monthly reports), lockers (which included some birthday cars that never were delivered) and anything else we could carry off. About 2 months later it was gone.
I don't know what happened to all that paper stuff. The lockers went into the Chama shop. Russ, Dan and I kept a few things. I got some air brake books, and few monthly reports out of it, but there were a dozen trashbags full of paperwork that lived in the freight dock in Chama for years.
