The Alamosa "car shop" was pretty busy right into the 1960's, the linked picture was takin in December 1961. Apparently more than one railroad felt that a major car shop did not need a roof, walls or heating, because Southern Pacific's "Car Shop 9" at Sacramento General Shops was a similar open area, and it carried out major capital program car rebuilding right up in the 1980's and maybe later. I wonder how much work got done when it was raining or snowing!
