Great subject! If somebody can dig up a right side photo of one of this class, you'll see that they were given front-end (multiple) throttles.
The Mopac did modernizing with some of their 4-4-2s too...examples existed with 3 major types of disc drivers, including Scullin!
A friend of mine rode behind one of the Mopac 4-4-2s during the war on a troop train...he said it flat cooked across the countryside.
