Phantom Curve holds a strong fascination for me. How many times have we had mid-day high sun photo ops there with mediocre results. This fascination was only intensified several weeks ago when I rode through there after dark, and watched the fanciful shadows from the headlight and the full moon dance among the rock formations....the origin of the name was ever so clear. One of my dreams is to get a photo special in there when the lighting is really good. But I don't really know when that is. It would be nice to find an access route that doesn't take hours to get in or out, so the lighting can be evaluated. On the very first C&TS photo charter back in 1970 a bunch of folks hiked in there, and were waiting for us when the charter arrived. It can be done, and presumably without killing one's self. But it probably involves some kind of circuitous routing to avoid the steepest parts.
