If it rains, don't count on a 4x4 to be enough. On a trip from Osier the wheel wells in my 4x4 filled up with so much mud that you couldn't steer.
On the other hand my very first visit to Osier around 1964 was in a Corvair....the road is fine when it is dry and if you are careful to dodge the occasional rock.
Big Horn from the west is is piece of cake for a sedan so long as you are careful. Indeed I have taken a Ford Taurus cross country in that area to get to the end of one of those long fingers that the railroad circles around.
On the other hand Big Horn from the east is a real adventure. Not so much that it is so bad, but you have to be so careful that eventually the bunch of us just got bored.
Now, just to play some oneupsmanship....how many folks here have driven to Rock Tunnel....or at least to the hill right above Rock Tunnel. It's very doable....but a key does come in very handy.
One of the neat things about the C&TS is all the backcountry to explore.
One question.....is there a well marked trail from the road down the hill to Phandom Curve. Every time I have tried hiking down the going got so steep and rough that I gave up. But obviously it's doable because I have seen folks there.
