Hello George,
Thanks so much for your response. Please allow me to clarify.
I have several hundred of the "bazzilion photos" you referenced of D&S graphics. Indeed, I have "done the work" to try and refine my search, but I am at a loss. I am not looking for photos of the lettering but rather the name/style of the lettering itself. You may be unaware of this, but most, if not all lettering styles on major railroads had/have specific names.
Examples would be like this: [
www.railfonts.com]
(You will note that the "Rio Grande" listing is not the same "western" style lettering currently used on cars in Durango.)
Alas - I have not been able to locate a digital font (that I had hoped to use in the creation of lettering decals for a personal modeling project) that resembles the style of the D&S.
My question relative to the history between the font and the Grande was in the hopes that if not the D&S, then perhaps the D&RGW created the look and style of the lettering used today at some point prior to the transfer of ownership in the 80's.
I appreciate your desire to chastise us young'ns to "do the work" for ourselves, but unfortunately, I have tried all avenues I can think of already. I turned here as I thought someone on the forum might be able to shed some light on the subject at hand... "D&S Fonts" - not photo research.
Thanks
Josh
