I believe Monero coal's use was limited to the railroad in Chama, Antonito and perhaps Alamosa. I don't think it sold over in the Valley. Baldwin Coal was sold for home heating in the Valley until the Valley Line got ripped out.
The power plant in Alamosa burned coal too. They may have gotten coal from Baldwin too. I don't know where their supply came from after 1951.
Mines west of Durango supplied the DRGW and RGS with coal and still supply the C&TS and D&S. They were supplying coal for Chama and points east with locomotive coal at the end of operations. Cars of coal were seen in eastbounds out of Durango. At one time the Alamosa power plant considered having their coal brought in from Durango in dump gons, but the DRGW wouldn't fix the cars up and the cars lost a couple tons of coal apiece in transit.
Now for the question: Where in Durango were cars of coal loaded in the 50's and 60's? I've never seen a pic of such a facility.
