Another point about the removal of the side tanks that was made here once before when we all were on the subject is that the engines had to preform on the Uintah with appropriate adhesion factor with the side tanks nearly dry. In other words it would make no sense to rate the engines for a certain tonage that they could pull when they start up a grade only to have them slip and stall as they use up their water supply.
