From the "for what it's worth" departement, a while back I had a conversation with Ed McLaughlin about the very subject of combining NG trips with an AOE train based in Denver. Apparently there were some serious discussions with AOE, who was interested.
As best I remember it would be Denver-Antonito by AOE. Antonito-Chama on the C&TS, with an overnight in Chama. Then by bus to Durango with a trip on the D&S sandwiched in between overnites. Then on by bus again to Montrose where it would meet the AOE again. And from there back to Denver via the MOffat Tunnel.
Intruiging concept. AOE apparently expressed interest in fronting a strink of delux coaches for their use.
Wonder whatever became of this?
