Fred,
Okey doke, latex it is. When it comes to surface prep, this may be a little unusual. I don't think the caboose is actually painted. She appears to actually have a coat of barn red stain or something. I was planning to just sand it down a bit and paint over. The wood is pretty dry though, where is a good place to get linseed oil? I forgot about Rustoleum, thats what I'll use for the grab irons, and black house paint on the window trim.
