Can someone bring me up to date on the condition of the beautiful Needleton water tank? I believe in Fall 1996 it was in disrepair, possibly dry, and band dropping. The wood tanks were not built to be empty.
Since these tanks are such beautiful icons for the D&S and the narrow gauge in general, why would anyone permit them to miss the maintenance needed to keep them in shape. With interest in the history for railfan weekends, and the general public, I would not think the interested parties would want to see a water tank become an embarrassment. It is not hard to secure the bands and keep a tank tight.
Also, could it be cost effective to relocate the M/W supply yard out of sight to a crossing to the north and restore Hermosa Sta. and WT to its 1955 scene with no chain link fence. A new facility might be more productive for workers and surely improve the most view site on the D&S line.
