Somewhere there is a pic I've seen from Windy Point of the RR shortly after construction. There is considerable downed timber from the 1879 Osier fire down in the valley where a huge aspen grove is now. The toll road is quite evident going straight up the gully to Cumbres. Today, from the train you can see the road through the trees below the track near MP333. The road crosses the track near a cattle guard and heads up the hill past where the trailer house used to be.
At Cresco, if you park on the highway and walk down directly to the tank, there is a narrow flat spot below the highway fill. Likewise, if you drop down from the highway to the spot where you can look down at the S-curves above Hamilton Point, there is another flat spot in the hillside. These flat spots are either the remains of the toll road or are the original pre 1969 alignment of the highway. They look way too narrow to have been the highway, but might have been. The two spots are a good 20-30 feet lower on the hill than the present pavement.
