believe it is time to bring the box car, caboose, and engine to a safespot for protected storage, restoration, and eventually-- operation. Who (group-association-museum-railroad) would be likely to do this?

The equipment and site now belong to the National Park Service. They are working like mad to get funding for a cosmetic restoration. I do not know if their plans include shelters, but I am fairly sure they do not include making the 278 operational.
