Preliminary local research indicates that this was the ore tipple for the King Mine which was across the river. This structure once had cables from it across the tracks and river to the mine. The property in question is most likely the King Mill Site, a piece of private property owned by a couple of fellows from Bayfield. The D&S has no property of its own in that part of the canyon and runs on undefined easements through both private and public lands, and in the case of mining property brought to patent as mining property subsequent to the railroad's presence in 1881-2, the D&S has a right-of-way with rights senior to the private property transfer from public lands to private. And the railroad's right-of-way through the national forest predates the creation of the NFS.
