White Pass & Yukon #52 is a Brooks, built in 1881 for the Utah & Northern Ry. 14x18' cylinders, 41" drivers, engine weight 45,800#. Number 52 is either U&N #23 (cn494) or U&N #37 (cn567). These 2 were renumbered by the U&N in 1885 to #'s 80 and 94 respectively. Both were sold to the Oregon Improvement Co. in late 1889 to become the Columbia & Puget Sound RR 2nd. #3 and 2nd #4 respectively. Both were again sold, this time to the White Pass & Yukon in 1898, becoming as their #'s 1 & 2, but which to which is uncertain. Both got new boilers in 1900. Info. from Pitchards "Utah RR Scrapbook"
