Yes, this is the loco dump at the shops in Uyuni. Also some more may be inside a shed? However we wrote in the 2005 TUT itinerary that there were over 50 locos. One Aussy got all bent out of shape when he counted only 32. He said we hadn't seen all of them? The ones at the shop were not all complete. In Oruru there were two 4-8-2's that looked to be more or less intact.
We also found dumped locos in Tupiza, Oruru, Viacha, Potosi, Sucre and at Guaqui. I know that there were some other locos dumped in some other towns. However our tour only went to these locations where we could see them. Also in Marcacamarcha at the branchline railroad were some more steam locos dumped. Actually inside the enginehouse.
The three operational steam locos on the whole roster are in Guaqui. The mainline had been stolen for about 1 KM. on the way to Viacha. The trackage to Guaqui has been closed for about 5 years now. There is no interchange with Peru by way of railcar float to Puno. Also the two ports only had only enough dual gauge trackage for few cars at each ferry slip. So the goods had to be transloaded. That is why the highway has killed all the cross lake traffic.
