It always amazed me about Bob and Cornelius and others involved down in Alamosa and then Golden that they never even gave a thought to firing the engines up. It took the youngsters in the crowd like Chris (well, he was young then! LOL) to suggest and then implement the operations. Bob and his associates were more than content to just have the locomotives preserved and weren't concerned with running them.
I asked him about it once and he said, "The idea never occurred to me." It would have been the
first thing I'd have done!
