Stephen,
I remember that day. I had seen some of Irv August's movies of the Rocky club excursions on the RGS and the Midland Terminal. I was frankly more than a little in awe of him and felt that giving him a cab ride was the least I could do. That he said it was one of his favorite memories both floored me and put me on cloud nine.
I always enjoyed giving cab rides when I could. I particularly remember giving a ride to a man so old and feeble that we had to help him up into the cab. I think I was firing that day and Dee Brown was running. The old gentleman regaled us with tales of running a logging locomotive at night when he was just a teenager. At the end of the run back in Silver Plume he had tears in his eyes. It puts tears in my eyes now thinking about how what we did helped him bring the past back to life.
