Ok, here's something that I was wondering if anyone familiar with D&RGW shop practices might be able to answer.
I recently purchased two stock car bodies (5558 and 5684) and in the process of prepping them for removal, I noticed something strange...one of them, I believe the 5684, had no end door on it. My first reaction was, oh, the new owner must have done something to patch over it, but, closer examination revealed it to be the original D&RGW black paint and original wood.
I don't have any of my D&RGW books with me (much to my chagrin), so I was wondering if anybody ever noticed any of the D&RGW freight cars that had no end doors. I'm not the best person at noticing details like that sometimes, so I'm not going to suggest that I have a complete anomaly, but, I also know that every car was a little different after enough shoppings.
My theory is that someone in the shop got confused, or thought they were dealing with the other end of the car, because I can't think of another logical answer.
Any insight or thoughts?
