Insuring Speeders

April 06, 2001 12:36PM
To my understanding, the various groups still get their insurance through NARCOA, the national group. The premium is somewhere in the $200-$250 range annually, I think. Not a bad price for $5 million coverage.
An ex-Sacramento Northern speeder? I'm envious! I've got a plain-Jane ex-UP MT-19, closed body.
By the way, closed cars look like a great way to stay out of weather, but the problem is that the aluminum body is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. So, if any of you guys are looking to get into the hobby, find yourself an open car with a roof! The canvas sides will help keep you warm in the winter, and you can open the sides up in the summer. The roof helps if you are like me, a little thin on top.
