Ironically the rest of the world adapted to either meter gauge at 39.37 in. or 42 in gauge like the Brits pushed in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Yet to the north of South Africa and Zimbabwe the gauge is meter.

Only the former British Colonies in Canada used the 42 in gauge on Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland that lasted into the 20th Century. PEI was standard gauged and NFLD was abandoned in 1988-89.

In South America a lot of meter gauge is running in Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Three foot is in minority.

unfortunately both El Salvador and now Guatemala have shutdown their 3 ft gauge systems in Central America.
