Re: Operational Denver and Rio Grande

The D&RGW filed for abandonment of the Alamosa-Durango-Farmington lines in September 1967. At that time the following locomotives were in service:

K-28: 473, 476, 478

K-36: 481*, 483, 484, 487**

K-37: 493, 497***, 498

*481 was overhauled but never run, sent to Durango in Dec, 1968 on last train.
**487 was retired in October, 1967
***497 was placed in service after overhaul in June 1967. It ran in 1967, but was not used in 1968.

In 1968 - the last year trains were operated east of Durango the following engines were in service:

K-28: 473, 476, 478

K-36: 483, 484

K-37 493, 497*, 498

*497 servicable but not used - stored in Durango.
