My gawd I'm getting old. August 1967 was when I chased my last Cumbres turn. It must have been just days after you were there. I was driving my 1963 Corvair from California to Philadelphia for school. The 497 with 487 as helper took an eastbound out of Durango, with the 487 dropping back to Durango from Falfa. Traffic was down and it took only two cuts to get the cars up Cumbres, so they made it from Chama to Alamosa in one day, with DPM and John Gruber riding an extra caboose. 40 years eh?
