Otowi Bridge

March 16, 2001 02:19PM
Somebody was asking about where the Chile Line crossed the Rio Grande. The following URL shows the present highway bridge, and just to the left of it can be seen the old highway bridge, which is being preserved as a remnant of the Manhattan Project days. Although I couldn't see it, the water gauging station is just to the left of the old highway bridge on the north bank of the river. This was one abutment of the truss bridge the railroad used. The line crossed the river at about a 45 degree angle. The dirt road on the south bank a little ways to the left of the bridges is the continuation of the Chile Line to the south.
