a little math

March 13, 2001 09:58AM
It was mentioned that the Golden White Water Course requires 1000 Cubic feet of water per second. let's see. That comes to about 6000 gallons of water per second, 360,000 gallons per minute, 21,600,000 per hour,518,400,000 per day.
Now consider that the water consumption on the Georgetown Loop is about (Pleas correct me if I am wrong Phil) about 12,000 gallons a day. That comes out to less than three ten thousandths of a percent of the water flow required by the water course. Just 2 seconds of it would keep the boilers full all day. The Georgetown Loop Railroad's contribution to the reduction of the flow of Clear Creek, I doubt is even measurable. I think that this looks like only a ploy by the City of Golden to extort large sums of money from mountain businesses an communities.
