Boom was actually at the end of a short branch on the ATSF main near Santo Domingo pueblo. In the spring a bunch of ties were floated down from Penasco to this point for pick-up and processing at the Albuquerque tie plant. A isolated 3" logging line ran up into the hills above Penasco , called the Santa Barbara Tie and Pole.It wax owned by the ATSF. It would have been far more practical if the ATSF made a deal with the D&RG tov haul them, but there was still bad blood from the "Royal Gorge War" and other disagreements over the years.
The little Santa Barbara Shay survived on the Pioche Pacific, and obscure road in SE Nevada, till 1947. After being used as a casino display, its latest home is in Tuolumne.
