The Austin Creek tragedy is well known. I believe some of the victims are buried in the cemetery in Tomalas Cal., which overlooks the former right of way.
A locomotive, with lots of guests on board went though a trestle over a flooded creek. Most died.
The North Pacific Coast, later North Shore, later North Pacific Coast narrow gauge operated from 1875 to 1930. Generally the line ran from a ferry connection at Sausalito on San Francisco Bay to the Russian River, with a branch to county seat, San Rafael. CSRM has locomotive Sonoma, Two cabooses are preserved, One passenger car is in Michigan, and we have a flat car at Ardenwood.
