FWIW, I worked for a defense contractor in field support of combat vehicle diesel engines (tanks and recovery vehicles). The military maintenance manuals all refer to the impeller devices as "turbosuperchargers". I never understood the terminology, nor where it came from. We more properly called them turbochargers.
