I am going from memory, so I might be a little off, but here is what I recall;
#74 was towed dead from Ridgway to Montrose. At Montrose it was loaded onto a Southern Pacific flatcar for the trip to Boulder. Loading was done by spotting a string of flatcars (as I recall RGS caboose 0401 and one of the business cars were loaded at the same time)on some three rail track, then one truck was removed from one of the flatcars and it was dropped to track level. Track was placed on all of the flatcars and a narrow gauge locomotive, aided by a string of NG gondolas serving as idlers, pushed #74 up onto the flatcar. The flatcar that had had its truck removed was jacked up and the truck placed back under it.
#74 moved via the Rio Grande from Montrose to Grand Junction and then to Denver via the Moffat Tunnel route. From Dever, the C&S moved the car to Boulder. I have been told that the locomotive was unloaded in a fashion similar to its loading and then moved by a tractor over temporary track to Central Park, a move of a nblock or so. (I have never seen any photos of its unloading).
