Sorry about the double post. I should've waited to see what actually happened after I got the server error. Anyway...
The reason I brought up the digicam issue is because I'm only aware of a couple of 8Mpixel cameras from Nikon, and they're all digicams. The 8700 and 8800 in particular are very SLR
like high-end digicams, but still digicams for all of that, with the high-latency inherent to the technology used. "Shutter" latency on these cameras are on the order of tenths of seconds even if pre-focused and well over a second if not. Not exactly action territory.
You really shouldn't see any noticeable latency differences between any recent dSLR and film SLR bodies of equivalent AF capabilities.
