At least their reduction of operations and scrapping of NG steam was not quite as drastic as their mainline actions. I was with my Dad's college roommate and dad to witness(so I am told) the end of most of the1600's(mallets) at Minturn I think. Many of them were brought in, had the fires dropped, were blown down and within a couple of hours shop forces were up on the boiler cutting out the steam dome. This gentleman I was with tried his best to not let the tears show.I neglected to say that he was an Industrial Studies Professor that just happened to own three steam traction tractors that were operated every Labor Day.
