By coincidence in a converstation earlier today with Sumpter Vly historian Ron Harr, we talked a little about the Eagle Vly RR. According to the article that I paraphrased it was NG and Ron reiterated this. He said as SVCartoad mentions they were going to build over Flagstaff Hill (location of the Ore. Trail Interpretive Center)which is a pretty good climb, but got no further with their grading. He said he did some research on it years ago and apparently they must have started to lay track as they had a "steam dummy", which he believes ended up on the SVRy stripped of it's full body. He said there is a photo around somewhere of this "steam dummy" that one of our mutual freinds Dick Anderson came up with. Also we talked about "Pleasant Valley" as mentioned in the early announcment about construction of the SVRy. The name Sumpter came along fairly late as the original founders wanted to name it Sumner after the famous fort but the post office dept. wouldn't go for it. Before the new name came into common usage and later applied to the whole valley, he has seen references to the valley as "Pleasant Valley.
