So far no one has suggested "Sumpter Valley - America's Greatest Narrow Guage" by Lucius BeeBee. It's hard to find, 450 pages, full color, with HO scale drawings of all rolling stock, thier modifications and color schemes.
There is also a mile by mile description of the right of way and all 2300 (yes) miles of connecting logging roads, including the rarely discussed Susanville to John Day extension that was done in dual gauge in anticipation of the Oregon and Northwestern extension, which as we know never was completed.
There are also pictures of the original no's 253-260 articulateds plus the present location of #255 and #259 (259 was converted to gas power in the late 60's)
One of my favorite sections is the detailed drawings of all aspects of thier freightcars. This will finally enable me to get my 7600 series flatcars in production in HO scale. (There is also a detailed explaination of which cars used T-Bets, Vulcans or archbar trucks.
I got my copy on Amazon from a very large lady with a spear and a shark tooth necklace. I didn't look closely but I think she was monomammourus.
Wait a minute - aw crap. The book is about West Side. Dammit. And the day after Christmas too.
