On the IRCA in Guatemala, length of the articulateds from coupler to coupler was 71'8 1/8". Weight on each driver was about 16 tons.
Although these two were tried on both Divisions, they found a home on the Pacific Division, but not on the 16 miles of 3.7% on Palin Hill. Instead, they were favored for the mixed local that ran between Mazatenango & Escuintla. Both Ben Turtin, MM and Jose Pineda, Road Foreman Engines, told me that they were only moderattely successful locomotives given the additional mechanical attention needed. They were rated for 250 tons on the 3.7% while the 150 series Mikados, sort of a modern K-27, could manage 200 tons.
