Not the worlds best photograph but it gives an idea of the size of the Columbian 2-8-8-2T Kitson-Meyer. The general opinion is that these were too big and the 2-6-6-2T type was a better locomotive. Nonetheless they survived, though latterly not used, until about 1962...
