N. American N.G. Steam Locomtive Design

December 09, 2006 09:06AM
This message is sent out in the hope that one or more of the very knowledgeable readers of this Site will be able to answer a number of questions I have about North American 3 ft gauge steam locomtives:
1. Were the K28's built spepcially for the Riogrande or were they adapted from a stock Alco design?
2. Apart from the 4 'sisters' to the K28's supplied to the Oahu Railway and Land Company, were any other locomotives built to this design?
3. Were the K36's built specially for the Riogrande or were they adapted from a stock Baldwin design and were they the largest outside frame 3ft gauge locotives built by Baldwin?
4. How many 3ft gauge 2-8-2's (18" dia cylinders, development of Maurilio Class?) were supplied by Baldwin to Cia Agricola de Guatemala and successors. I can positively acount for 14 but I believe the number is a lot higher.
Looking forward to answers to these querries from Leeds, West Yorkshire. Charles
