I think the guys are working with what they have. I think also, they might have done this job a few times before. Isn't some of the road bed in the dirt and needs to be picked up? I think we best stand back, and get out of their way! They know what shape the right of way is in. Seems not to long ago, someone stated that the tracks/ties were unstable laying on the ground, and that was why the cars wobbled back and forth going down the track. I would guess that is why the ballast is deeper than what you think it should be in some sections. The guys on scene know what they need. I know when we rode last year they had a lot of bad sections.
