1941 Timetable

November 14, 2006 08:48PM
In the June 1941 Official Guide, train #115 left Antonito at 8:05AM and arrived at Chama at 11:15AM. Train #116 left Chama at4:05PM and arrived at Antonito at 7:25PM. In other words they covered the 63.8 miles in three hours and 10 or 20 minutes for an average speed of around 20MPH. I don't know about you, but I have ridden the C&TSRR many times and that is FLYING on that track profile. I doubt even with good track if C&T could duplicate that time. Their passenger cars are really old freight cars on freight car trucks mimicking passenger cars. If they could get it down to 4 hours plus the one hour lunch stop on a consistant basis I think they would be doing well. The main benefit of new ballast and ties plus alignment would be a smoother ride.
