One of the things that auto manufacturers learned long ago was to make different models (and brands) off of the same automobile platform.
An old friend whom I've had since high school never could understand why my folks and his would pay good money for what he called "Glorified Chevy's" (our parent's called them Cadillacs).
It still gets his goat today.
But my folks still by Caddies and Lincolns and are happy with them.
And I suppose that's the key for the whole preserved steam industry. Offering enough "dealer options" to satisfy a variety of customers.
The majority of the C&TS customers just buy a ticket on the regular passenger train. Others perhaps only ride the Moonlight Train.
Others are perfectly satisfied with Jay's charter.
And some will only be happy with trains that are run strictly according to D&RGW practice.
From 1,000 miles away it looks like Jay put on a good show for his crowd.
If Chama Steam is not someone's cup of tea, then they can organize their own charter.
And the winner will be the railroad, and all of us who love steam, because more trip options will, hopefully, draw more customers for the railroad.
